We create global scale services to transport, store, secure and manage some of the most sensitive data on the planet and build our services on top of Azure, Exchange and other cloud platforms, and our experiences in Office applications like Outlook. Our team is seeking a Principal Group Engineering Manager to join us as we create and deliver mission critical services and solutions as a part of Microsoft Purview. You will be building cloud solutions meeting scales that few companies in the industry are required to support, that leverage state of the art technologies to deliver holistic protection to a planet scale user base. Office 365 is the industry leader in hosted productivity suites and boasts to be the fastest growing business at Microsoft with more than 100 million seats hosted in multiple data centers across the globe. Group Engineering Manager provides leadership, direction and accountability for application architecture, Cloud design, infrastructures development and end to end implementation. You will independently determine and develop architectural approaches and Infrastructure solutions, conduct business reviews, and operate our production services.
You will be building cloud solutions meeting scales that few companies in the industry are required to support, that leverage state of the art technologies to deliver holistic protection to a planet scale user base.
Team Strong collaboration skills will be required to work closely with other engineering teams to ensure services/systems are highly stable and performant and meet the expectations of internal and external customers and users.
Qualifications
Expertise/Experience
- Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and common Design Patterns
- 15+ years of relevant software development experience and proficient in C# (Java or C++)
- Relevant people management experience
- Ability to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries.
- Experience in DevOps to maintain live services and\or application frameworks.
- Cloud and services experience, with Azure cloud experience highly desirable.
- Analytical skills with systematic and structured approach to software design.
- Passion for building highly scalable, highly reliable services.
- Experience with or exposure to Agile and iterative development processes.
- Collaborating with technical partners to deliver end-to-end solutions
- Experience with multithreading and asynchronous processing
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline using agile practices
- Ability to quickly ramp up on multiple technology areas

- Confident and articulate in expressing ideas to a mixed audience with varying views and challenges
- Cultural sensitivity and a proven ability to work with teams and partners across multiple geographies.

Essential qualifications
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or Engineering OR equivalent years of work experience.
Responsibilities
As a Principal Group Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the following:
- Driving the strategy, vision, and execution for the team in collaboration with the Data Security & Privacy Leadership team - compromised of engineering, design, and program management leaders.
- Lead team through design, architecture and execution of core services at planet scale.
- Lead the definition of requirements, key performance indicator (KPIs), priorities and planning of engineering deliverables.
- Innovate and make service deployment and maintenance an efficient well-oiled machine that provides excellent reliability with minimal manual engineer intervention.
- Coach team leaders and engineers within the team, grow the energetic, diverse, and high energy team, senior managers and ICs.
- Actively shape and drive a flexible, diverse, and inclusive culture where everyone is enabled to be at their best.
