Purpose:

The purpose of the Associate Director - Safety Data Scientist is to manage and analyze complex Global Patient Safety (GPS) datasets across multiple platforms in order to understand data trends, assess business issues, and drive analytic solutions. The Safety Data Scientist Associate Director / Director will work with stakeholders to analyze workflows and business processes to identify improvement opportunities, productivity enhancements, and increased quality of data and process. And they will utilize their business process analysis, benchmarking, and analytic trends knowledge to influence and drive the GPS technology and analytics strategy forward.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic and Technical Leadership

  • Proactively assesses and advises GPS business on key upcoming/emerging technology trends (based on assessment of internal data/trends and external environmental changes).
  • Research new technologies and work with business, corporate analytics, and IT teams in building and deploying applications/analytics models.
  • Influences and drives GPS technology strategy through external/internal benchmarking, business process automation needs, and analytic trends.
  • Leads strategic cross-functional projects across GPS and GPS Partners for automation, technology and analytics needs.
  • Provides subject matter expertise for inspections and audits in relation to safety data, safety systems, and reporting.
  • Maintain deep technical understanding of safety process knowledge in order apply technology and automation to GPS processes.
  • Provide expertise to drive optimal data migrations/data transfer processes for GPS.

Safety Data Analytics and Reporting

  • Manages and analyzes complex datasets across multiple platforms (e.g. LSS, Mosaic, Inform, Veeva, FAERS) in order to assess business issues and drive analytic solutions (mapping available data and identifying gaps).
  • Drives strategy around creation of existing or new ad-hoc queries and/or visualizations to support GPS and Lilly safety reporting needs.
  • Influences development of complex queries and networks with GPS and business partners to define reporting solutions.
  • Looks for opportunities to create self-service/enhanced reporting options for GPS/Lilly functional areas.

System Development & Maintenance

  • Drives analytics and automation solutions to address large cross-functional issues for GPS and associated business partners.
  • Provides experience developing use cases, translates business issues into user stories and subsequent mapping into a technology solution.
  • Responsible for the oversight and/or development of new and existing GPS systems, tools, technologies and strategies in support of related business processes.
  • Accountable for maintenance of GPS systems as system owner or custodian while strategically influencing and driving the system change management process as needed.
  • Partners with Quality to ensure that standard validation principles and system development methodologies are utilized to create and maintain GPS- based applications.
  • Leverages applications and development efforts with GPS organization and other regional centers to maintain alignment and foster consistency as appropriate across GPS.

Operational Excellence

  • Provides consultation and partners with GPS leadership and Quality to deliver upon regulatory and audit requests.
  • Leads engagement to define, deliver, and report operational measures.
  • Works across GPS to provide oversight to the definition and implementation of reporting tools and applications that provide insight into operations.

Compliance

  • Deep knowledge of existing regulations/guidelines and trends for GPS automation and technology (i.e. e2B, eDC, AI, safety mailings) to proactively drive change to maintain compliance.
  • Understands the confidential nature of company information and takes necessary steps to ensure its protection.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree within a Health Science, Information Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with data, reporting, and processes/systems.

  • Experience in operational and workflow analysis.
  • Demonstrates ability to be a self-starter comfortable with creating structure in an ambiguous environment; possesses a proven history of being a quick learner.
  • Demonstrates experience with using data analysis and visualization tools (i.e. Excel, Business Objects, Power BI)
  • Demonstrates experience with Data Storage Technologies (e.g. SQL, Oracle, Access, etc.)
  • Demonstrates experience with Artificial Intelligence (e.g. Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, etc.)
  • Demonstrates experience with Data Manipulation and Analysis Languages (e.g. VBA, SPARQL Python etc.)
  • Demonstrates experience with Visualization Technologies (e.g. PowerBI/Tableau/Spotfire/Advanced Excel etc.)
  • Demonstrates working knowledge and application of Computer System Quality (CSQ) requirements.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the GPS safety system and business process.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or demonstrated understanding of pharmacovigilance or clinical research.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment.
  • Some travel may be required.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$111,000 - $162,800

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
