The Opportunity

Abbott's Data Science & Engineering organization accelerates data-driven solutions and creates business value across the organization related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Analytics, and Big Data. We use state-of-the-art technologies, build cutting-edge algorithms that solve complex health challenges, and develop reliable, cost-effective tools. This is a technical role where the candidate is expected to be a key contributor in building compelling data products and participating in the development and deployment of system and software architecture critical to data initiatives.  Supporting data platforms and products post-launch are main responsibilities of the role, in addition to facilitating continuous integration and delivery of data products using the cutting-edge development operations (DevOps) tools and technology.  The candidate will be responsible for system designs, portfolio management, operations, and execution of data and analytical solution delivery to support Abbott's mission. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Primary Function

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight in data and analytical solutions development as related to deployment, operations, and AI infrastructure.

  • Develop strategies and roadmaps for defining and maintaining the development and deployment infrastructure for various cloud and AI applications.

  • Lead a team focused on system excellence, root cause analysis, and insights to solve cutting-edge opportunities including troubleshooting of build and deployment related issues.

  • Plan on continuous improvement of DevOps processes, tools and technologies in addition to  creating and maintaining documentation for data platform processes, tools, and usage.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute data governance and security policies, in addition to managing resources and timelines for DevOps and data platform projects.

Core Job Responsibilities

Strategic Oversight

  • Collaborate with technology leaders, business partners and peer groups regarding long and short-range data infrastructure and DevOps support.

  • Recommend and drive innovative solutions as it pertains to data systems and infrastructure which anticipates the future direction of the business, its drivers and solution strategy.

  • Support the globalization of AI and GenAI capabilities for the organization as it pertains to reliability, monitoring, observability, and compliance with internal policies and procedures.

Technology Delivery Oversight

  • Work closely with business function partners to support data solutions design, development and commercialization of informatics products in compliance with internal policies and procedures.

  • Lead architecture team to develop reliable information management solutions using AWS and/or Azure services such as Cloud compute, Data Pipeline, File storage & Database Services.  

  • Support analytical solutions development, operation and maintenance of continuous integration and deployment of pipelines for projects.

  • Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of cloud technologies (AWS/Azure), data management, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.

  • Ensure the availability and reliability of development and collaboration tools and technologies.

  • Support and maintain compliance and controls for all relevant regulations (FDA, SOX, CFR, GDPR, HIPAA) and policies that apply to healthcare.

  • Configure, execute and manage deployment activities related to big data projects within the defined scope.

  • Expedite, manage and coordinate a multitude of interrelated project activities within the constraints of human and financial resources and changing priorities to ensure the successful completion of projects.  

  • Coordinate resources to ensure project needs are addressed and effectively assign tasks and deliverables to team members based upon their abilities. 

  • Constantly improve system performance and reliability through better tools, process, and monitoring systems.

  • Drive the adoption of new technology and methods through evaluation and feasibility research 

  • Supervises, motivates and mentors cross-functional /cross divisional project team of project managers, data engineers, developers, and validation analysts. 

  • Serve as liaison between various business and IT teams.

  • Ensure compliance to Abbott quality and regulatory policies and procedures.

  • Partner with Product Owners to align the roadmap with the technical design and strategy.

  • Review and ensure application designs are consistent, maintainable, flexible and cost -effective solutions.

  • Ensure effective systems operations between suppliers and Abbott Plan/Build organization.

Scope

  • Part of the centralized team responsible for conceptualizing, developing and maintaining cloud and big data solutions within Abbott 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Experience

  • 10-15+ years of experience in development operations, cloud and big data platforms, application and digital product support

  • Expertise in Big Data, Delivery Management in the Analytics domain, data warehousing solutions, and Data application development

  • Advanced theoretical and working knowledge in configuration management, continuous integration and deployment

  • Working knowledge with DevOps automation tools, container and container management technologies

  • Proven capability in identifying value with new and emerging technologies. Experience with cloud and big data implementation projects on Azure and/or AWS

  • Strong customer centric approach with outstanding leadership and organizational skills

  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, actionable manner

  • Excellent vendor management skills

  • Ability to prioritize and triage deadline-driven tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Ability to manage 3-4 direct reports as well as external partner resources

  • Ability to dive into solution design and engineering (Hands-On skills)

  • Experience working in an FDA-regulated business (e.g. validated software related to medical, pharmaceutical, or life sciences products) is preferred. 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, engineering, or equivalent relevant experience/ Master’s Degree preferred

The base pay for this position is $127,300.00 – $254,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
