The Opportunity:

Abbott is looking for a Senior IT Technical Manager to join the Manufacturing Execution Systems group within the Business Solutions & Services Plan/Build organization. This position requires a blend of manufacturing knowledge, people management, technical consulting expertise, and “hands on” builder/implementation skills. The Senior IT Technical Manager is responsible to provide technical design strategy and manage an IT team responsible for developing manufacturing recipes through MES FTPC software for facilities across Abbott. This role will collaboratively develop, troubleshoot, and maintain a standard MES and automation architecture. A strategic approach and use of Industry standards should be applied with a focus on building re-useable, scalable solutions. This position requires strong leadership capabilities, an executive presence, and the ability to simultaneously think and act strategically and tactically to balance long-term planning in parallel with flawless execution.

Senior IT Technical Manager is responsible for aligning technology solutions with business strategies, working across Abbott functions. Successful candidate acts as the technical leader for major systems and their subsystems utilizing a thorough understanding of available technology, tools and existing designs.

What You'll Work On:

  • Works with business units, engineering, and infrastructure teams to design and build recipes and application integrations to align with business objectives. 
  • Manages BSS technical team capacity and review corresponding project demand for solutions and projects across respective domain(s).   Ensures alignment with Enterprise service providers.  Escalates if Provider is unable to meet demand.
  • Act as subject matter experience with MES and industrial automation.
  • ?Experience implementing robust manufacturing systems and processes.
  • Demonstrates leadership. Facilitates collaboration between stakeholders who have diverse objectives. Understands the relevance of own area of responsibility/specialism to the employing organization.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain management or manufacturing processes, having the ability to implement strategies to improve the efficiency of the process.
  • Understanding of integration between MES, PLM, ERP.
  • Experience with equipment integration and shop floor systems.
  • Lead site critical MES enhancement projects, including hardware upgrade, process streamline, architecture upgrade, recipe delivery, and testing coordination.
  • Follow the Computerized Systems Validation process and Software Lifecycle (SLC) methodology to build and qualify/validate systems.
  • Assess near-term needs and develop technical solutions; advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and system priorities.
  • Partner with the functional groups within the IT organization to communicate and clarify business needs, contribute to development of long-range system plans, and ensure products and services are aligned with business needs.
  • Serve as technical expert and leads technical staff to develop, test and implement significant new products, or operational improvements or devise new approaches to problems at the division/business unit.
  • Review, validate & enhance design, conduct performance monitoring and capacity planning; install, test and upgrade releases and associated products.
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred / 9+ years experience.
  • 9 years of IT experience with expertise in management and technical delivery in large or midsized global organization.
  • Strong skills in methods and technologies to support manufacturing data integrations (SQL, Web Services, data mapping etc.)
  • Experience managing technical landscape of a portfolio of applications, including sustainment of the applications. 
  • Proven experience and understanding of the complete software development life cycle.
  • Ability to collaborate with business leads, understand business processes and Data Management.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Proven leadership skills, self-directed with strong work ethic.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task across multiple programs successfully.

‘Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems, i.e. Rockwell FactoryTalk.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Pl/SQL, Label printers, Scanners Configuration and support.

Supervisory responsibilities:

  • Manages and directs technical efforts of developers, technical analysts, and support staff. Assists management in technical training, guiding, and evaluating less experienced IS and technical staff.

The base pay for this position is $127,300.00 – $254,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
