Principal Associate, Strategic Change Risk Assessments - International

As a Principal Associate for international strategic change risk assessments, you will be a key contributor enhancing and driving our international risk management framework for Capital One’s largest, most complex initiatives. This involves analyzing international initiatives to identify business, operational, and technology risks, ensuring our company remains well-managed and avoids unnecessary risks.
The Principal Associate for Strategic Change Risk Assessments will support our Enterprise Services (ES) Risk office in Capital One’s first line of defense, and will be on the forefront of enabling our business partners to efficiently and effectively deliver strategic change initiatives (e.g., international activities), while ensuring that risks are appropriately identified and mitigated. Specifically, in this position, you will help support the execution of international risk assessment processes for ES, influencing outcomes supporting the broader enterprise International Risk Strategy, and driving consistency and transparency to ensure that we consistently identify individual risks to mitigate, as well as comprehensively roll up key themes and generate views of aggregate risk across the company.
The ideal candidate is an analytical thinker with expertise in international risk (e.g., geopolitics, laws / regulations), technology / cybersecurity, and risk management. You will need the ability to manage competing priorities, collaborate with stakeholders, communicate effectively across all organizational levels, and facilitate problem-solving to achieve objectives. You will work closely with associates across all Lines of Defense, Lines of Business, Cyber, and other risk management teams to develop, support, and implement risk management frameworks and practices.
Responsibilities:
- Drive and facilitate strategic international risk assessments, activities, and processes related to Capital One’s emerging strategic change risk management function.
- Support the tracking and assessment of international initiatives through Enterprise Wide risk assessment processes, in coordination with the First Line Technology and Cyber teams, Lines of Business, and Second Line teams, to ensure effective collaboration within the team and across stakeholder groups.
- Provided embedded and proactive advisory, with appropriate oversight, to support Capital One’s largest, most complex strategic initiatives.
- Assist project and program delivery, including project and process management, reporting, engagement in senior leadership meetings, drafting and reviewing materials for Senior Management and other governance activities.
- Support and lead cross-functional projects across a variety of strategic initiatives, including potential day-to-day oversight over Capital One associates.
- Stay current on the changing geopolitical and regulatory environment, with an understanding of how developments may impact our international operations.
- Identify and implement local process improvements to drive efficiency and maximize value.
- Participate in and execute other special projects for the team on a periodic basis.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or military experience
- At least 3 years of experience in risk management
- At least 3 years of experience planning and leading risk assessments and audits
- At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients
- At least 2 years of project or process management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in risk management
- 5+ years of experience leading or supporting an International program or Country Risk Management program
- Ability to communicate and influence clearly, and to interact effectively at all levels of the organization
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining superior results
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively respond to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
