Role & Opportunity

As the Group Engineering Manager for the .NET tooling group, you'll be at the forefront of leading dynamic local teams dedicated to crafting essential tools for millions of passionate .NET developers. Your influence will be pivotal in shaping the present and future landscape of building, testing, and seamlessly integrating .NET into powerhouse products like Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code.

In this high-energy role, you'll be the driving force behind both technical innovation and effective team management. Your success hinges on your in-depth understanding of the diverse needs of engineering teams, intricate engineering systems, and the pulse of organizational processes. Your responsibilities will extend to managing engineering teams, fostering collaboration across Microsoft groups to integrate and support .NET tooling, and ensuring alignment to maximize efficient coordination of talented engineers in the Prague .NET tooling group.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
  • Senior level industry experience and experience of managing larger teams.
  • Strong technical background and experience to drive engineering excellence within a team.
  • Proven experience successfully designing, building, shipping, and maintaining high quality software products.
  • Track record of effective hiring, developing next-level leadership, and retaining engineering talent.
  • Ability to navigate through large matrix organisations and create clarity.
  • Demonstrate strong customer focus.
  • Effective influence on peers and partners outside the chain of command.
  • Excellent communication skills with presentations, speaking, and writing.
  • Prior experience in developer tools, runtimes, operating systems, or other low-level software systems, showcasing a proven track record of navigating and optimizing the intricacies of these technical domains.

Responsibilities

  • Steering the long-term product and engineering strategy for .NET tooling teams.
  • Hire, retain and grow engineering talent, architecting engineering units for independent and efficient work towards organizational goals.
  • Establish organizational rhythm of business to drive planning and execution aligned with product development partners in Program Management.
  • Foster an engineering culture with a focus on engineering excellence, diversity, and inclusiveness.
  • Collaborate with leaders across a geographically dispersed organization, adeptly communicating objectives and plans.
  • Drive precision in product definition, solicit customer feedback, and guide the engineering team to timely delivery of high-quality software tools to internal engineering organizations.
