The Opportunity 

Our location in Maple Grove, MN , currently has an opportunity for a Principal Engineer, Product Technology. This position is in the Product Technology group and will be working in a SOC2, ISO27001, and highly sensitive and secure environment providing platforms and services that Abbott business partners can leverage to enable connected products (IoT) as well as product customers and clinicians.  This role leads design of the overall Product Technology environment and works closely with business partners to design and architect infrastructure of product and customer facing applications.  

Primary functions:

  • Develops core design principles for the Product Technology hybrid environment (OnPrem and Azure), aligned with Product Security standards and quality requirements

  • Provides technical consulting expertise of infrastructure design for business partner applications and shared core services

  • Develops documentation to share with business and internal partners highlighting common design documentation, network infrastructure, ingress/egress, security guidelines, etc.

  • Close collaborator with business partners as new applications are being proposed for hosting within the Product Technology environment

  • Leads and participates in Architecture Review Board meetings by presenting new design patterns or providing constructive feedback

  • Develops functional requirements for business offerings that Product Technology supports

  • During project intake and design, responsible for technical oversight and business consultations aligning closely with BRM and Project Managers

  • Responsible for limited scope PoCs to test new infrastructure and PaaS components not previously designed and implemented as code

  • Responsible for developing infrastructure blueprints that provide secure and robust implementation guidelines for entire Product Technology team

  • Responsible for collaborating with DevSecOps teams to share business partner application design and implementation details of limited scope PoCs

  • Responsible for proposing new designs that meet architecture principles and obtaining approvals

  • Responsible for implementing security and compliance guardrails/controls on new POCs and Designs

  • Responsible for partnering with SREs, PMs, and other Product Technology and internal business partner application teams as appropriate

  • Responsible for complying with SOCII, ISO27001, and other attestations as appropriate

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Consult, design and architect business partner and shared service infrastructure while ensuring they are consumable by DevOps, etc.

  • Work with Azure and Azure PaaS services

  • Work in Waterfall and Agile project planning while executing work via sprint cycles

  • Understand business partner needs and assist in designing application infrastructure

  • Determine technical objectives of assignments. Exercise latitude in approach to solutioning

  • Manage vendor relationships along with procurement and Product Technology Operations

  • Tier 3 support for escalation of issues

  • Understand customers’ business objectives and system requirements and work closely with customers to determine their strategic requirements and measure performance against expectations. Assist in customer resolutions

  • Responsible for staying abreast of new developments in technologies and making recommendations as appropriate

  • Will apply certification and Product Security policies and standards when performing all duties

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • Passion for IT, Infrastructure and Architecture

  • Degree in computer science, networking or related IT field and 10+ years experience or 13+ years of equivalent IT experience

  • 5 years of architect/principle engineer experience with multiple technologies pertinent to position

  • 4+ years of Azure exposure/experience preferred

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

  • Professional IT certifications are a plus but not required

  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner

  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
