Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • 3+ years’ experience planning, managing, and delivering global programs/products in the datacenter infrastructure industries.

Other Requirments:

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • 8+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Detailed understanding of global datacenter infrastructure designs, operations, and engineering.
  • Experience in supply chain operations management.

Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.

Responsibilities

The Director of Capacity Delivery Portfolio Management will lead the strategy to scale Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation’s (CO+I) datacenter capacity delivery and network upgrade capability, leveraging planning principles. They will develop overall vision and strategy for scaling the region, build and lead the team and ensure success of the programs aligns to CO+I’s desired business outcomes. Will work with cross-functional leaders building relations and unblocking issues. Lead portfolio management teams responsible for managing capacity delivery goals; ensure proper governance, development and maintenance of business processes and portfolio level reporting. They will enable Microsoft to commit high confidence delivery dates to customers partnering with planning and execution teams.

Program & Portfolio Management

  • Drive cross-team programs as needed to meet the changing business environment and to manage complex business needs ensuring organization-wide implementation of strategic efforts that require hands-on coordination across multiple disciplines and business teams.
  • Leads portfolio management of build, lease, network refresh and other projects in their region to meet customer needs.
  • Leads strategic innovation and experimentation to bring systemic changes to capacity delivery blockers.
  • Capacity Delivery / Network Refresh – Implement planning and scheduling programs to meet Microsoft customer needs.
  • Drive business results through key performance indicators and business goals, promoting clarity and motivation to the program teams to execute on time, under budget, while delivering high quality results with zero rework.
  • Influence design standards for network execution programs throughout our datacenter portfolio.
  • Partner with finance and supply chain organizations to ensure accurate capital spending.
  • Manage multiple projects within the portfolio leveraging the team, ensuring that each project meets its objectives and is delivered on time.
  • Develop and implement project management processes and tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide regular project updates to senior management and other stakeholders.

Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of detailed project plans, including timelines, and resource requirements, for large-scale datacenter construction projects partnering with stakeholders.
  • Manage and influence cross-functional teams, to ensure project milestones are met and deliverables are completed on time.
  • Monitor project risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate potential issues partnering with regional end to end program management teams.
  • Work with clients to understand their needs and ensure project outcomes meet their expectations.
  • Seek ways to streamline, automate and simplify processes. This will include deployment of tools, proficiency in data analytics, and ability to streamline processes to better meet business needs.
  • Identifies and leads process improvements to quickly scope insights; and drives change management initiatives.

Analysis of Demand Signals

  • Guides teams to identify opportunities and gaps in the implementation of feature(s)/feature areas including comparison of various quality and performance metrics to various solutions.
  • Demonstrates and builds experiences across multiple groups or divisions. Leads and coach teams develop problem statements and form hypotheses to address complex business, program, customer needs, and/or market opportunities.
  • Determines and leads process improvements and drives change management initiatives. Uses industry understanding to direct teams to ensure alignment between the internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and the goals and strategy of Microsoft.
  • Holds teams accountable for collaborating with others to ensure that they can satisfy customer requirements. Facilitates collaboration between their team and other partner teams to bring about solutions.

In this role, the successful candidate will partner closely with engineering, operations, planning, regional teams, and other program management teams to ensure CO+I is delivering capacity meeting customers’ needs. They will work with segment verticals to drive programs focused on transforming how we deliver datacenters and refresh our network. These programs will be on the leading edge of innovation and will require program managing pilots and other experiments that shape ongoing planning and strategy to deliver datacenters efficiently and on schedule. This includes diving into existing Demand Signal to Datacenter colo ready activities for systemic issue investigation, improving process efficiencies, upgrading technology solutions, and working with multiple segment owners including technical teams to implement solutions at scale. You will influence decision makers within CO+I and partner teams, leveraging business intelligence, conducting root cause analysis, to manage scope, schedule, and budget of datacenter infrastructure projects. As the Director of Capacity Delivery PM, you will engage with stakeholders to deliver high quality data in our planning, scheduling and management review systems driving agile and accurate decision making.
