About the Bureau
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is an independent federal agency that aims to make consumer financial markets work for consumers, responsible providers, and the economy as a whole. We protect consumers from unfair, deceptive, or abusive practices and take action against companies that break the law. We arm people with the information, steps, and tools that they need to make smart financial decisions.
Technology Program
We’re looking for experts in data science, machine-learning, artificial intelligence (AI), product design, product management, user experience (UX), and web application development who are passionate about using their skills to ensure consumer financial services are fair, transparent, and competitive to join our CFPB Technologist program. Our technologists help conduct investigations, advocate for consumer needs and ensure the federal government can keep pace with the private sector.
If selected, technologists will be appointed to two-year term appointments with the opportunity to extend up to a total of four years. You can work from home anywhere in the United States, or at CFPB headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Why you should apply
Technologists will work alongside attorneys and economists to properly supervise financial institutions using a wide range of technical or design methods to inform investigations or litigated matters. Technologists will support the cross-pollination of key ideas in emerging technology fields to ensure the federal government can keep pace with the private sector.
- You will work on small, cross-functional teams with enforcement attorneys and economists to perform technical investigative research for projects that affect millions of consumers.
- You will analyze computational models implemented by financial institutions that inform what products consumers are eligible and reinforce discriminatory biases.
- You will research how Big Tech firms harvest and monetize data they collect from consumer transactions.
- You will anticipate risks and acting fast to support consumers when Big Tech systems fail.
