Responsibilities

The Infrastructure Engineering Operations Management (IEOM) Mainframe Engineering team works across a large breadth of technologies allowing a unique learning opportunity amongst the team. IEOM Engineering team has the freedom to focus on hands-on prototyping, research efforts, and Proof of Concepts (POCs) without day-to-day support obligations. IEOM Engineering team is responsible for collaborating with Enterprise Technology product teams to understand and evaluate technical requirements that may result in infrastructure offering modifications. IEOM Engineering team will work closely with the IEOM Service Delivery teams and a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to evaluate and validate proposed technical solutions and changes. IEOM Engineering team will work closely with IEOM Area Level Architecture to identify areas of improvement, changes to architectural standards, and future state capability strategies. Additionally, IEOM Engineering teams work with the Project Support Office (PSO) as technical resources in validation of project estimates and requirements or as technical resources on defined projects.

This position is focused on Mainframe Engineering – specifically operating system, hardware, language support, and issuance. There are several opportunities within the team to expand your mainframe knowledge and influence.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in infrastructure engineering with a focus on Mainframe
  • Deep expertise in mainframe technologies and tools
  • Ability to be a result driven self-starter who enjoys researching, hands on proof of concept work, and learning new tools
  • Ability to identify and develop new technical solutions with limited guidance
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues
  • Effective collaboration skills and communication skills to work across team(s), document research/POC findings/architectural decisions, and showcase work
  • Knowledge of security principles and governance/risk processes
  • Ability to work with vendors and establish professional relationships
  • Ability to represent State Farm at various conferences and council meetings

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to foster innovation, encourage diversity of thought, and incorporate new ideas
  • Proficient in mainframe operating systems (z/OS) and hardware (IBM Z Series)
  • Proficient in mainframe language support and issuance
  • Proficient in scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, Go) for infrastructure automation and tool development.
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., GitLab CI/CD)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (BMC AMI Products, Splunk, IntelliMagic, Dynatrace) to ensure system performance and availability
  • Certifications in mainframe technologies or infrastructure-related certifications

Our Benefits

Because work-life-balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!

  • Potential starting salary range: $85,500 - $175,500
    • Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
    • High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
  • Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary

Work Arrangement:
HYBRID: Qualified candidates (in or near hub locations listed below) should plan to spend time working from home and some time working in the office as part of our hybrid work environment.
